University College
We are about student success.
The mission of MTSU’s University College is simple; everything we do is designed to enhance our students’ success — academically and beyond. We serve working adults, parents, veterans and active military, as well as traditional college students.
Our average student is a little older than most college students and has responsibilities outside of the college environment. University College offers a variety of programs and services that enable students to gain the most from their college experience.
MTSU is one of only a few public universities in Tennessee to be awarded the Adult Learning Focused Institution designation based on their commitment to provide programs and services customized for the adult student.
Online degrees and classes
Students take advantage of online classes and programs for a variety of reasons. A student can take a single class or complete their entire degree program online. Online classes let people continue their education without coming to campus. The flexibility of online programs allows them to better fit their education around other commitments.
Degrees for working adults
Fitting school around the demands of a full time job, a family, and other responsibilities requires flexibility in program design. Both the Professional Studies degree and the Integrated Studies degree allow students to customize the program, tailor courses to their unique career goals, maximize the credits they have already earned, and be prepared for whatever comes next. One of the most popular programs for adults, the Applied Leadership program, blends online classes with in-person courses. Through our innovative Prior Learning Assessment program students can often turn the knowledge gained in the workforce into college credits – allowing them to graduate sooner and for less money. University College is also home to a specialized Public Safety concentration that is designed specifically for those currently working in that area to earn a degree and advance their career. Graduate and undergraduate degrees are available.
Summer Sessions
Summer sessions are attended by nearly 33% of all MTSU students. Summer school provides an excellent way for students to make the most of their time at MTSU.
Professional Development
Learning doesn’t stop at graduation. We offer nearly 1000 online, professional development classes covering a wide range of subjects.
