Summer Term at MTSU offers flexible course options to help you stay on track or get ahead. Whether you’re a current student, transient student, or returning adult learner, Middle Tennessee State University provides a range of summer courses, including flexible online and in-person formats.

Summer priority registration for 2026 runs April 6–17, 2026. Students should check PipelineMT for their assigned registration date. New summer freshmen (after advising), new summer transfers (after advising), transient students, and undergraduate special students may begin registering April 20, 2026.

MTSU offers flexible summer scheduling with several options, including 12-week, 6-week, 5-week, and 3-week terms. These options make it easier to fit classes around work, internships, travel, and other summer plans.

Students may enroll in multiple summer sessions depending on course availability and academic standing. Undergraduate students may take up to 18 total credit hours during the summer without special permission. Graduate students are limited to 12 credit hours without an approved overload.

Suggested maximums by term:

  • Full Term: 18 credit hours
  • 3-Week Terms: 4 credit hours
  • 5-Week Terms: 8 credit hours
  • 6-Week Terms: 8 credit hours

Students should consult their academic advisor before registering for multiple sessions.

For summer enrollment, 12 credit hours is considered full-time for undergraduate students, and 9 credit hours is considered full-time for graduate students.

Yes. Many MTSU summer courses are offered online, hybrid, or in person, giving students flexibility in how they complete coursework.

Yes. Students from other colleges may take summer classes at MTSU as transient students. Visit the Undergraduate – How to Apply page and select Transient Students for application instructions and the transient student checklist.

Yes. Summer courses count toward degree requirements just like fall or spring courses. Students should work with their advisor to confirm that selected courses apply to their program.

Financial aid may be available for eligible students taking summer classes. Eligibility depends on several factors, including the type of aid available, aid used during the fall and spring semesters, and the number of credit hours enrolled. Students should contact MT One Stop for details about summer financial aid options.

Summer classes begin May 18, 2026, with additional start dates throughout the summer depending on the session.

Summer dates and deadlines are available in the MTSU Summer/Fall Registration Guide and on the MTSU Academic Calendar. Select Summer Semester on the academic calendar to view summer-specific dates.

By mid-March each year, the Summer Term schedule of classes becomes available through the Dynamic Schedule. Students should work with their advisor to choose courses that count toward their degree program.

The MT One Stop assists with financial aid, registration, tuition, billing, and transcripts. Students may contact MT One Stop by email or through the virtual counter for help with summer registration questions.

Summer school at Middle Tennessee is guaranteed to be a fast-paced academic experience. To assist you, Housing & Residential Life offers limited housing in the residence halls, Judd Hall and Gracy Hall. Summer housing is also available with restrictions to Summer students who meet the qualifications for assignment to Scarlett Commons.
